He is 29 years old, a trained accountant who transitioned from being the company’s accountant via EY to now becoming a partner. 

Niels Dalby Mortensen is the financial backbone of Felkon. He complements the company’s enterprising business leaders with the essential knowledge and security around finances. 

Niels is from Odense, where he pursued his accounting degree and began his career at one of the world’s four largest auditing firms. Everything was set and planned for him: the next step was to pursue the Chartered Accountant certification and then steadily progress in a secure and financially comfortable career. 

But there was one problem—this wasn’t for Niels! 

A business trip to Barcelona with one of his clients laid the foundation for something completely different. 

“I was looking at a career as an accountant and advisor. There was good money to be made, but it didn’t ignite anything in me. On a trip abroad with Felkon, I felt the energy of the company,” says Niels Dalby Mortensen. 

In August 2023, he left all security behind. He moved in with a friend and spent the first few months sleeping on the couch. 

“At Felkon, I’ve been given the opportunity to work much more strategically while also becoming a co-owner. That excites me tremendously,” says Niels Dalby Mortensen. 

What do I really want with my life?

On his first day at Felkon, Niels was told to ditch the shirt and tie. Instead, the focus was on casual attire and an informal atmosphere. However, the work ethic remained strong, and big plans were being made. 

“I saw this as a chance to shape my own life. I’ve had no reason to regret it. My role is to be the numbers guy. I need to systematize it all. The company has a solid foundation; it just needs fine-tuning.” 

In many ways, Niels has taken on the role of the wise, older, gray-haired figure who keeps Felkon’s business practices in check and continuously improves them. 

Historically, Felkon has diversified into many business areas but has now narrowed its focus to energy. 

“Now, we stick to energy as our primary business area. We’ve successfully established three well-functioning electricity companies, but we have bigger ambitions in the electricity sector. Our focus is to enter the trading market,” says Niels Dalby Mortensen.
